Beneath the surface is where the true story is. What we notice—headlines, viral videos, social media mention, quarterly results—is just the small visible part. Below the surface are the deeper forces: motivations, systems, identities, and daily habits that shape our public life. Going deeper is not about mystery; it's a clear approach. It helps us…

Herbert Macaulay’s Pardon, Oseni And Umahi; By Festus Adedayo

Words are sacred sovereign objects. This sacredness makes them very essential to democratic freedom. In his poem, ‘The Word Is An Egg’, great Nigerian poet and dramatist, Niyi Osundare, demonstrated the primacy of the word, whether written or spoken. Before his appointment as the Secretary to the Plateau State Government, SSG, in 1999 by former Governor (now Senator) Joshua Chibi Dariye, Mr. Ezekiel Gomos was making waves in the private sector as the General Manager, Investment Supervision and MD/CEO Arewa Hotels Ltd in Kaduna, Northwest, Nigeria.

Gomos is of Ngas tribe from Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State.  He was educated at home and abroad.  He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria in 1979 with B.A (Hons) degree in Geography and also bagged an M.A in Development Studies (1983 – 1984) from the University of East Anglia, Norwich, United Kingdom.

He is a member of the Project Management Institute, Nigerian Institute of Management and Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.  He is also a Fellow of Hubert H. Humphrey, USA and Academy of Entrepreneurial Studies, Nigeria.

At present, Gomos is the Executive Director of Jos Business School. Prior to this, he worked with many organizations, including the Northern Nigeria Development Companies, NNDC, where he rose to the position of General Manager then CEO of some NNDC subsidiary companies.  Therefore, his areas of interests spanned management consultancy, entrepreneurship development, business advisory services and ICT.

Immediately Gomos left the services of the Plateau State Government in 2003, he went back to private life as he and other like minds co-founded the Jos Business School (JBS) in 2003.

The Jos Business School has been at the forefront of human capital development and capacity building for youths for sustainable economic development.

Little wonder, in 2014 hundreds of youths from across the country in collaboration with Jos Business School had gone through the one-year Graduate Internship Scheme courtesy of the Subsidy Re-investment Programme (SURE-P programme).

The trainees were the unemployed graduates that the federal government sent to employers. The programme lasted for months, after which they exited.

Similarly, the Nigeria Film Corporation, NFC, had signed a memorandum of understanding, MOU, with the Jos Business School which organised this year’s international film festival which took place in Jos, Plateau State.
 Reconstruction of Jos Main Market

The Plateau State Government under the leadership of Governor Simon Bako Lalong in its effort to reconstruct the Jos Ultra Modern Market destroyed by fire in 2002 recently appointed Gomos as chairman of the project implementation unit.

The former SSG is the recipient of several honors and awards, which includes the award of the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR) given to him in 2008.
