The reasons why the expelled member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh has continued to attack the Delta State chapter of the party and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege in the aftermath of the 2023 general election, has been exposed.
Speaking during a press conference organized by the Delta chapter of the APC on Saturday July 15, 2023 at the party secretariat, Asaba, the State chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie stated that Dr. Cairo Ojougboh’s recent attacks on the state exco and the person of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege was as a result of his uncontrolled appetite for money to finance an undisclosed ‘business’ which he is into, saying that the Ika-born medical doctor-cum politician needs urgent rehabilitation.
It would be recalled that Dr. Cairo Ojougboh had in recent times, accused the governorship candidate of the APC, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of working against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the February 25th Presidential election just as he laid claim to an imaginary exco different from the Elder Omeni Sobotie-led party exco in the State.
While addressing the press in Asaba on Saturday, the State chairman of the party, Elder Omeni Sobotie however described Dr. Cairo Ojougboh as a very desperate man hanging around the APC national secretariat looking for help and trying to reap where he did not sow.
Sobotie recalled that while he keeps accusing Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who won his unit, ward, local government and senatorial district in the Presidential election, Cairo Ojougboh did not win his unit both in the presidential and governorship election, adding that he worked for Okowa and the PDP. According to Sobotie, the Ika-born politician has never at any time and in any political dispensation won election in his unit, pointing out that evidences were abound which showed how Cairo Ojougboh publicly campaigned for former governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and the PDP in the February 25 presidential election and March 18, governorship election.
“To the best of our knowledge, Cairo is not a member of the APC. Cairo Ojougboh knows he has been duly expelled from the APC. The national body of the APC would not have ratified the expulsion of Cairo Ojougboh if it was not convinced that what the State and Local Government did to expel him was right.
“There are evidences of Cairo Ojougboh’s anti-party activities which we supplied to the national secretariat of the APC. There are videos of Cairo Ojougboh celebrating the criminally-manipulated victory claim of the PDP.
“And these are the people who want to reap where they did not sow. Cairo is always in the national secretariat. He is looking for rehabilitation, so that they can give him something. He is on an expensive business and he needs money on a regular basis to sustain business”, Sobotie said.
Giving further details, the State party chairman noted that while trying to beg on one hand, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh believes that disparaging the name of Senator Omo-Agege and the state exco, will attract patronage to him, adding that Ojougboh must be facing some challenges that require those close to him to look for a way to assist him.
“While begging on one hand, he believes that maligning Delta APC and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, they will patronize him. He is spreading so many tales. I think there is a challenge somewhere and those who know him should look for a way to assist him. He needs rehabilitation”, he said.
Also debunking the allegations by Cairo Ojougboh that there was a certain State exco of the party led by one Nana, Elder Sobotie reiterated that “there is only one legitimate and officially recognized Executive Committee of the party in the State, and it is led by me, Elder Omeni Sobotie. As the State APC chairman, I superintend over the affairs of the party in Delta State, which most of you know”.
