Eminent Elderstatesman, First Republic politician, nationalist and leader of Pan Niger Delta Forum, (PANDEF) Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark is dead.

Clark, the leader of the South-South region until his death was also a Second Republic Senator representing Warri, a former minister for information during the regime of Gen Yakubu Gowon, an eminent Lawyer, erstwhile Commissioner for Education and Finance in the old Midwest Region, respectively.

His death was confirmed in a statement by a representative of the family, Prof. C. C. Clark, on Tuesday.

The statement read, “The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, wishes to announce the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark OFR, CON on Monday, 17th February 2025.

“The family appreciates your prayers at this time. Other details will be announced later by the family.”

Aged 97, the former Federal Commissioner for Information was at the vanguard of campaign for good governance in Nigeria.

Clark’s death came barely seventy-two hours after the death of Ayo Adebanjo, leader of Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, another elder statesman and nonagerian like the PANDEF leader.
