The First Lady of Equatorial Guinea, Constancia Mangue Obiang, has expressed her displeasure over the scandal rocking Baltasar Ebang Engonga, who was recently sacked from office as the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF).
Obiang, during a meeting with Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue, maintained that the Equatorial Guinea government needs to take urgent steps to safeguard the dignity of women of the country.
In a statement from the First Lady’s Press Office, Obiang said the videos circulating on social media platforms are denigrating to the women of Equatorial Guinea.
The statement reads in part: “H.E. Mrs. Constancia Mangue of Obiang, in addition to showing her indignation for this event, has wanted to know the strategy that the Government proposes to mitigate this situation that does nothing but distort and denigrate the image and reputation of the Guineo-Ecuadorian woman, despite the efforts made on the issue of gender.”
The New Diplomat reports that Engonga has been facing stormy waters after several videos of him engaging in intimate encounters and sex escapades with high-profile women went viral on social media.
The scandal erupted after nearly 400 tapes showing Engonga’s intimate moments with VIP women, including his cousins, were leaked on social media platforms, quickly becoming the subject of intense public scrutiny and outrage in various international jurisdictions.
The discovery of the footage has sparked widespread controversy and calls for action and punishment against Engonga.
Reacting to the development, the President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, in Decree No. 118/2024, dated November 4, announced the sacking of Engonga on Thursday.
