Netherlands international and Liverpool captain, Virgil Van Dijk, will miss next week Saturday’s English Premier League (EPL) encounter between his club and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Van Dijk was sent off in the 28th minute during their EPL match with Newcastle where they won 2-1 which automatically made him miss the match against Aston Villa last week Sunday.

But the Football Association (FA) in a statement on Friday slammed the 32-year-old another match ban and fined £100,000 ($124,000) for improper behaviour towards the referee after he was red carded.

This means the defender will not travel with the rest of the team to the Molineux Stadium to play Wolves.

“The defender admitted that he acted in an improper manner and used abusive and insulting words towards a match official after being sent off in the 29th minute and the sanctions were subsequently imposed by an independent regulatory commission,” a Football Association statement said on Friday.

Van Dijk was sent off after his harsh tackle on Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

The Reds are currently third on the log sharing 10 points with Tottenham Hotspur who are second; Westham United and Arsenal FC who are fourth and fifth respectively with 10 points apiece.
