Newly-promoted Sunderland pulled off the shock of the Premier League season so far, stunning Chelsea with a dramatic 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
Substitute Chemsdine Talbi fired home a sensational 93rd-minute winner, securing all three points for Sunderland.
Chelsea looked to be in control early on when new signing Alejandro Garnacho netted his first goal for the club in just the 4th minute.
The Argentine displayed impressive pace and finishing, driving into the box and firing a low strike past the Sunderland goalkeeper.
However, the lead was short-lived. In the 22nd minute, Sunderland capitalised on poor defensive organisation from a long throw-in. The ball ultimately fell to striker Wilson Isidor, who flicked it home from close range to level the scores.
The second half saw Chelsea dominate possession, but they struggled to break down a resilient and well-drilled Sunderland defence.
Just when a draw seemed inevitable for Enzo Maresca’s side, the Black Cats delivered the fatal blow in stoppage time. A rapid counter-attack saw substitute Brian Brobbey hold up the ball before laying it off to fellow sub Chemsdine Talbi just outside the box.
The Moroccan curled a superb, precise effort into the net, leaving Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez helpless and securing a famous 2-1 victory.
The win marks Sunderland’s first league victory over Chelsea in nine years and their first at Stamford Bridge since 2014.
