  • Condemns Disproportionate Use Of Force On Protesters

Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has added his voice to the ongoing #EndSARS protest, commending the courage of Nigerian youths who have engaged in the protest against police brutality.

The former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, lauded the tenacity of protesters to voice their concern.

He said, “I woke up to the peaceful #EndSARSProtests going on in Lagos and other cities in the country. First, I would like to commend the tenacity of our brave youths who have stayed out on the streets all day and night to make their voices heard. I stand with you all.Atiku and #EndSARS

“Protests are an essential part of any democracy as we have seen the world over, and should be seen as an opportunity for dialogue between our people and our leaders.

“Thus, it is essential that the fundamental rights of Nigerians to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression must be protected at all costs,” the former vice president said in a tweet.

Atiku also urged the federal government to heed to the concerns of the #EndSARS  protesters and investigate alleged excessive use of force by the police force.

“I strongly condemn any disproportionate use of force on protesters across the nation. I also call on the relevant authorities to ensure our youths are heard, and all incidents of excessive use of force by security agencies against protesters are investigated,” he said.

Recall that the #EndSARS protest which started on the social media and suddenly gone global with influencers and celebrities staging a protest against police brutality.

The campaign started on Thursday with Protesters gathering in Lagos, Abuja , Osogbo in Osun State and in Ughelli in Delta among other cities.
