An unfortunate incident of looting has taken place in Maza-Maza and First Gate area of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos state, early Thursday.

According to findings, angry residents and youths in the areas, still infuriated about the ongoing protest against police brutality in the country, stormed the area as early as 7:00am, and looted to the ground, a food warehouse.

The New Diplomat gathered that items looted include bags of Rice, Spaghettis, Noodles, Groundnut Oil, Drinks, and seasonings

The items were allegedly part of the stolen Federal Government’s Coronavirus palliatives sent to the Local Government Area around March, to cushion the effects of the economic hardship being experienced by the people.

One of the residents, Miss Fatimah Hassan, who berated the youths for engaging in the act, said “no matter your anger, this lawlessness and opportunistic tendency can never be justified.”

She said instead, such would only bring about distrust in the capability, sincerity of purpose, and personal integrity of millions of other Nigerian youths, who are honest, purposeful, and distinguisheable with impeccable personal integrity.

According to her, “these people have invaded the Warehouse since 7:00am this Thursday morning. They have been looting the place, stealing food items that are packaged in different sizes.

“It is believed that these foods were part of the Federal Government’ COVID-19 Palliatives sent to Amuwo-Odofin Local Government,” she added.

Another resident of the area, who spoke to our reporter, Mr. Temitope Olalowo, confirmed the incident, saying, people in the streets have been racing down to the warehouse to fetch whatever they can.

“However, I am not going to join that dishonourable thing. It is a stain on my integrity as a young person who has been fighting for a better Nigeria.

“It is obvious the foods must have been stolen by our government officials from the COVID-19 Palliatives sent by the FG, But i can not afford to be part of the problem we are all fighting against,” he added.

Efforts to reach the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Chairman, Chairman, Valentine Brahimo, to confirmed the allegation, proved abortive as he could not be reached on phone.
