Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced the formation of a new political party, dubbed the “America Party,” on July 5, 2025.

The announcement, made via Musk’s social media platform X, comes on the heels of a public feud with United States President Donald Trump.

Musk declared that the formation of the new party comes amid growing frustration with what he described as a “corrupt uniparty system.”

In a post on X, Musk stated: “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

The announcement followed a viral poll Musk conducted on X on July 4, 2025, asking users whether they wanted “independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system.” The poll, which garnered over 1.2 million responses, reportedly showed strong support for a new political alternative.

The New Diplomat also reports that Musk’s decision to launch the America Party stemmed from his vocal opposition to a recently signed $3.3 trillion spending bill, which he has criticized for exacerbating the national debt.

Once a key supporter of Trump’s 2024 campaign, Musk parted ways with the administration in May 2025 after disagreements over the president’s “big, beautiful bill.”

The legislation, which includes sweeping tax cuts for the wealthy and reductions to programs like Medicaid, has been a lightning rod for controversy, with Musk arguing it will add trillions to the US deficit.

Trump, in response, threatened to reconsider federal contracts with Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, and even hinted at potential deportation.
