The Kaduna State Government has called on citizens and civil society organisations to strongly support the security agencies in discharging their duty to protect the society. The government said it condemns the illegal attack on security agents, the destruction of property and the inducement of social panic by members of an unlawful society over two days this week.

Affirming that it stands in solidarity with the officials of security and law enforcement agencies serving in the state as they discharge their duties, the government said there can be no doubt that there will be prosecutions for those indicted for the violent conduct that took place. The government further disclosed that the Kaduna State Police Command has been directed to arrest and investigate all suspects, after which the indicted will face vigorous prosecution.

A government statement said that Governor Nasir El-Rufai has also conveyed the sympathy of the government to the Nigeria Police Force for the fatality and injuries suffered by policemen who were attacked by members of an unlawful society. The statement reiterated that the state government will not tolerate illegal behaviour and will continue to strongly support the security agencies in the vital service they provide.

“The Kaduna State Government strongly condemns the barbaric attacks visited on security agents in Kaduna by members of an unlawful society over two days this week. Governor Nasir El-Rufai has conveyed the commiserations of the state government to the Nigerian Police Force for the loss of a police officer and the injuries to some officers.

“Malam El-Rufai stated that the Kaduna State Government stands in solidarity with the security agencies that are performing the vital duty of keeping citizens safe. It wishes to assure all security personnel of its unflinching support for the lawful discharge of their mandate.

“There can be no doubt that the state government shall seek justice for the officers who suffered the horrific mob attacks. Illegal groups cannot by acts of violence impose their will on others or try to decide ongoing court processes through street action. No group will be allowed to oppress or menace others under any guise.

“Government calls on all citizens, civil society groups and communities to extend support to security agencies. Mobs and unlawful groups must know that our communities will resist their attempts to foment chaos. Security agencies complement a strong civil society to keep our communities safe and secure, and to uphold common values. It is therefore vital that the security agencies continue to receive citizen cooperation as they contain the situation.”
