The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the June 18 Ekiti State governorship election, Chief Segun Oni, on Thursday, said he is still in the race, slamming reports that claim he has withdrawn from the contest.
Oni said this to clarify news milling around that he had struck a deal with the Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to backtrack on his aspiration for the victory of APC governorship candidate in Ekiti, Biodun Oyebanji.
Oni while speaking with Arise TV on Thursday, monitored by The New Diplomat described the report as false and fabricated, saying it is a show of panic from the ruling party fold.
He, however declared that nothing can make him abandon his governorship aspiration or compromise it.
In his words, “They said I have caught a deal with them, that I was withdrawing. You don’t lie against an underdog. So, I believe that it shows the spirit of panic. I have not caught a deal with anybody. The number one cannot withdraw, who will he withdraw for, number two or number three number nothing?. I am topmost, I am not withdrawing and situation remains the same it is not true and it will not be true.”
