Eight suspected oil thieves and a vessel, MV MAC CLINT, are being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for their involvement in illegal oil bunkering.
Their investigations and possible prosecution are coming on the heels of their arrest and hand over to the EFCC on Wednesday, 21 February, 2018 by the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER Naval Base Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
At the brief hand-over session, the representative of the NNS Pathfinder’s Commander, Navy Captain Victor Choji, said that the suspects were arrested by the NNS PATHFINDER’s patrol team deployed for anti-crude oil theft and illegal oil bunkering operations around Okono Oil field, Port Harcourt.
According to him, the suspects were arrested with one vessel, MV MAC CLINT on 22 November, 2017. The vessel, laden with an estimated 522 metric tons of products suspected to be Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) was allegedly loaded from MT VICTORIA at a location outside Bonny Bar on 21 November, 2017 without Naval approval.
The suspects aboard the vassel are: Williams Ajokworode; Eyerimemre Godbless; Dennis Bekewer; Nsidibe Okon; John Bassey; Emmanuel Sunday, Endwell Henshaw and Benson Oghele Moses.
The suspects will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded
