The Edo State Police has dismissed reports making the rounds on the social media that over 50 school children on their way to write the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination in Okada, Ovia North East were kidnapped by suspected herdsmen.

According to a statement by the Edo State Police spokesman Mr. Kontongs Bello, he noted that no such incident was recorded either in Benin or anywhere else in the state.

Kontongs, a superintendent of police explained that the report which went viral is not only misleading but capable of creating panic and an attempt by the authors to paint the police and other sister security agencies in a bad light.

According to him, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Yaro Abutu appealed to the general public to remain calm as the command under his watch will continue to ensure the safety of lives and properties of residents.

He said that the report which he insisted is fake news has only succeeded in causing confusion and panic in the state.
