There is confusion over the authentic winner of Edo state governorship primary election of All Progressives Congress (APC), as three flag bearers have emerged since saturday.
The confusion trailing the primary election in Edo State continued on Sunday as the member representing Etsako Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Anamero Dekeri became the third aspirant to claim victory.
The announcement was made by the spokesperson of the Local Government returning officers of Edo state, Ojo Babatunde.
He announced that Dekeri polled 25,384 votes to beat Dennis Idahosa who polled 14,127 votes to second place.
In his words, “Hon. Dekeri having met the requirements of the law and scored the highest valid votes cast have been declared winner of the election and returned elected.”
The New Diplomat reports that this is in contrast to the announcement of Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and Chairman of the primary election committee.
Uzodimma had declared that Idahosa polled 40,483 votes to win the election, an exercise that had since been rejected by Clem Agba.
The New Diplomat had also reported that in another election, the returning officer for the primary, Stanley Ugboaja, declared Senator Monday Okpebholo as the APC candidate.
Ugboaja had announced that Okpebholo won the primary election having polled a total of 12,145 votes.
