Eight years after the murder of a community head, Godspower Erhumwun, the Amagba Community, in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, has called for an investigation into the circumstances of his murder.

Erhumwun met his tragic end from what family sources called bullet wounds, following an attack after disagreements with other community members over the oil and gas discovered in the village.

Sources noted that while the majority of the community members wanted to sell the piece of land, Pa Erhumwun, as community head, objected because it was sacred land.

Recounting the incident of February 2012, a source pleading anonymity claimed that early in the morning they heard gunshots in the direction of Pa Erhumwun’s house.

“The community had been divided before this attack so we the youths were doing vigilante activities. After the shooting, many of us went to his house only to meet him bleeding. The people who killed him drove everyone in the house away before they shot him.”

“They looted his house. The whole place was ransacked. We saw bullet holes on the walls, which showed that they were many who were shooting. Unfortunately till today, we have not heard any report from the Police about what happened,” the source said.

The source said the residence of Erhumwun has been in ruins and desolate, since because both his wives and children had disappeared without trace.

However, the Police, noted that they made some arrests and were still investigating both the crisis and the murder. They promised to get to the root of the matter in the New Year.
