Vice President Kashim Shettima, President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, and former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, were among political bigwigs that attended the mega campaign rally for the governorship candidate of the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Monday Okpebholo.

Also present at the mega rally are Governor Bassey Edet Otu of Cross Rivers and Governor Lucky Oyedatiwa of Ondo State.

Leading the campaign, Shettima declared that Okpebholo was the best man for the governorship seat of Edo State.

According to the Vice President, Edo State needs a strategic thinker, builder and a man with a compassionate heart who can lead his people aright.

Shettima added that Okpebholo and his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, will deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

Akpabio, in his address also expressed confidence in the candidate , saying that Okpebholo will deliver his electoral mandate.

He said he doesn’t need somebody who can speak “grammar” but one who can perform.

Akpabio said Okpebholo, as a senator, has been living up to his billings in the National Assembly, stressing that there is no doubt about his ability to deliver the dividends of democracy at all.

On his part, Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, said that there is nothing to write home about the state government’s years in office.

He said the markets that were burnt during his tenure were not rebuilt; rather, the hospital and the state library were converted into museums and shopping malls.

The New Diplomat reports that Okpebholo is battling with Dr Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), among other candidates for the governorship seat of Edo State.
