… Heads to Court

By kawaekwune Jeffrey

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the outcome of the Edo State Governorship election as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The party claimed that its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo “won” the election.

This position was made known by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, during a media briefing in Abuja on Monday.

Damagum also declared that the party will challenge the results in court.

According to him, the Edo electorate overwhelmingly voted for Ighodalo.

He stated: “INEC should take advantage of the window provided in the Electoral Act to correct this anomaly and retrace its steps in the interest of democracy.

“We had alerted the public and the world about the plan by the APC, working with compromised elements within INEC and the police, to subvert the will of the people of Edo State. Now, we have seen this play out in the announcement of these fraudulent results.”

This is coming after The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, declared Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the Edo State governorship election.

Okpebholo garnered 291,667 votes to defeat his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 247,655 votes.
