The Edo State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Asue Ighodalo has reacted to his loss at the just-concluded governorship poll, saying that his political aspirations were motivated not by a thirst for power but by a genuine desire to serve the people of Edo State.

In a heartfelt message to the citizens, Ighodalo expressed gratitude for their support throughout the electoral process.

He further highlighted the courage of voters, saying they stood firm amid alleged threats and intimidation.

According to him, they are “the true heroes of this moment.”

He stated: “My good people of Edo State, in all things, we must first give thanks to God. We are grateful for the gift of life, health, and your overwhelming love and support throughout this journey.

“My aspiration has never been about power. It has always been a genuine desire to serve and create prosperity for all in Edo State, for every man, woman, and child.”

He pledged to continue fighting for a better future, adding, “Together, we will create a pathway to prosperity for all in Edo State.”

The New Diplomat reports that Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes to defeat Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 247,274 votes and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), who came a distant third in the race with 22,763 votes.

Okpebholo of the APC won 11 local government areas, while Ighodalo won 7 leaving Akpata with none.

However, the PDP has alleged that the election was marred by electoral fraud.
