The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced the airlift of sensitive election materials to Benin, Edo State, less than 72 hours before the governorship election of the state.
This was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the NAF’s Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, Kabiru Ali.
Ali, in the statement, confirmed that the airlift began on Wednesday as part of a broader effort to ensure the timely and secure delivery of sensitive materials necessary for the smooth conduct of the elections.
The statement reads in part: “The airlift operation demonstrates the collaboration between NAF and INEC, aimed at facilitating logistics and ensuring a peaceful election process in Edo State.”
The New Diplomat reports that the Edo state resident registered voters are going to the polls to vote for the candidate of their choice on September 21, 2024.
Dr Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Barrister Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) are the three leading candidates for the top job of Edo State.
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu disclosed that a total of 2.6 million individuals are registered to vote in the forthcoming September 21, 2024 governorship election of Edo State.
