The governor-elect of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo has officially received his certificate of return after emerging victorious at the September 21 governorship election of Edo State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Thursday, presented the certificate of return to Okpebholo, who contested under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The ceremony took place at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

The New Diplomat reports that INEC, on Sunday declared Okpebholo winner of the Saturday, September 21 election.

According to official results, Okpebholo polled a total of 291,667 votes to beat his closest contender, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 247,274 votes.

Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) came a distant third in the race with 22,763 votes. Fourteen other candidates contested the seat but got less than the three frontline candidates.

The APC candidate won a total of 11 local governments against the PDP, who won 7 local governments.

The inauguration of Okpebholo is scheduled to take place on November 12, 2024.
