  • Says Omobayo Remains Deputy Gov

By Abiola Olawale

The Edo State Government has approached the Appeal Court to set aside the ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja which ordered the reinstatement of Philip Shaibu as the state Deputy Governor.

The Edo State Governorship also filed a stay of execution before the Appeal Court pending the determination of the matter.

This was made known by the State’s Commissioner for Orientation and Communication, Hon. Chris Nehikhare, in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Nehikhare, in the statement, insisted that Omobayo Marvellous Godwins remains the deputy governor of Edo State.

The statement reads in part: “Pending the hearing of the appeal of the judgement, the incumbent Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Omobayo Marvellous Godwins remains and continues to serve as the valDeputy Governor of Edo State.

“He will continue to serve in this capacity and will be recognized as such. The government hereby calls on the people of Edo State to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses.”

The New Diplomat reports that this is coming after Justice James Omotoso of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, had declared the impeachment of Shaibu as illegal and unconstitutional.

The judge in his ruling held that Shuaibu’s impeachment and subsequent removal from office violated the provisions of the law.

He also ordered his reinstatement as deputy governor of the state.
