Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Edo State, has alleged that there are irregularities in the ongoing election, claiming that it could go down as the worst election in Nigeria’s history.

Ighodalo made this claim on Sunday, September 22, during a live press conference organized by the Edo PDP National Campaign Council, which was chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

It would be recalled that eligible voters went to the poll on Saturday to cast their vote in the Edo governorship election. The PDP, APC and LP were the three frontline political parties who fielded candidates at the polls.

Ighodalo of the PDP alleged: “ The way this election is going, it is set to be the worst election in the history of this country.
“In Ikpoba/Okha Ologbo, the figure for accredited voters was NIL, but the results claimed the APC had 227 votes, while the PDP had 103. How is that even possible?”

He added: “In another unit in Ikpoba/Okha Ologbo, the number of accredited voters was recorded as 156, but the APC was declared to have won 2,110 votes, while the PDP received just 57 votes, and no votes were recorded for the Labour Party.”

Ighodalo claimed that the situation is a “result-writing scheme” targeting over 20 polling units across the state.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who was also present at the press conference , expressed his agreement with Ighodalo’s concerns, accusing INEC of denying PDP agents access to collation centers. Fintiri urged INEC to follow its own rules,

Fintiri said: “What we’re asking from INEC is to follow their rules. REC has no business announcing results or moving collation to INEC headquarters. This is our stand, and we will go back to consult.”

The PDP said it will contest any results purportedly marred by irregularities through legal channels, calling for an immediate review of the electoral process.
