In what observers are presently connecting to the war of attrition presently going on in the state ahead of the looming governorship polls, the Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Yekini Idiaye has been impeached.

Idiaye, who had only just announced the switching of his allegiance from the Obaseki/Shuaibu camp to the Oshiomhole/Ize-Iyamu side, was impeached on Wednesday during a plenary session of the Assembly in Benin City.idiaye impeached edo

The mood in the state ahead of the elections is indeed turbo charged and the election is being seen as a test of popularity between both sides that have long been at each other’s throat for several months now.

While Governor Obaseki is running on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, his principal challenger, Pastor Ize-Iyamu is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Curiously both men were also the star combatants in the 2016 contest, albeit on the alternating sides of the divide at that time.

The contest, along with that of Ondo which takes place also within the year, is being seen as a dress rehearsal for the 2023 General Elections.
