Barely one week after the ruling party,  APC lost Zamfara state to the opposition party PDP in a unanimous judgment of the Supreme Court, the Coalition of 2019 APC Ex-presidential aspirants and the Forum of Core APC have called on the national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to resign, attributing the myriad of misfortune that have afflicted the party to him.
The group under the chairmanship of Alh. Mumakai Unagha, addressed a joint press conference in Warri today, where it blamed the poor performance of the party in the last election on the national chairman’s obstinacy and unpopular leadership style.
He said, “Our party (APC) performed poorly during the Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship and House of Assembly Elections.
“Instead of the party reclaiming some states, we lost the ones we were holding on to. These states include Zamfara, Sokoto, Bauchi, Oyo and Plateau States.
“There were other potential states APC would have won if the National Chairman of the Party Adams Oshiomhole had listened to the voice of reason and immaculate judgment to resolving the crisis he created within the hierarchy in the party across the federation.”
According to the group, rather than finding solution to the crisis he created in the party, Oshiomhole was fueling it creating the impression that he is anti-party.
The APC Ex-presidential aspirants also accused the national chairman of unilaterally hiking the cost of nomination and expression of interest forms for the various offices, adding that when the group raised an alarm the chairman ignored them.
They further accused the national chairman of creating crisis in all the 36 States of the country including his own state, Edo, where there is the possibility of losing it to PDP in the next election.
The group therefore called on the national chairman to resign honourably to save the party from total collapse.
“The national chairman has done more damage than good to the party. In the light of the above, we, the coalition of 2019 APC ex-presidential aspirants and Forum of Core APC wish to renew our call on the national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to honorably resign to save the party from imminent collapse”, the group advised.
They further called on President Buhari and the national leader of the party, Senator Ahmed Tinubu to “prevail on Oshiomhole to step aside as he has created more division than unity in the party”, adding that “as it is now, Oshiomhole cannot lead the party as we have no confidence in him any longer.”
All attempts to reach the national chairman to react to the call for him to resign have proved abortive.
