The Department of State Services (DSS) has debunked claims that its operatives allegedly involved in the shooting of Mr Toheeb Eniasa while purchasing fuel at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited NNPCL) filling station at Obalende area of Lagos State.

An eye witness, who was at the scene, said that Eniasa was in the queue when the incident happened, alleging that the officers were from the Department of State Services, as they had their branded polo shirts.”

The source said: “I saw them. They are men of the DSS. They came to the scene to buy fuel but refused to join the queue.

“That is what they always do. It was not Toheeb’s (Eniasa) turn, and he confronted them, asking them to join the queue or be polite about the way they go about the purchase.

“One of them was so impatient. He slapped Toheeb and he retaliated with more words. Before we could know it, we heard gunshots and Toheeb fell to the ground.”

While reacting to the incident, the DSS, in a post on X platform (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, dismissed the reports and direct enquiries about the Obalende incident to the Lagos State Police PRO.

“The story that two DSS staff allegedly fired at a member of the public in a filling station, and were also attacked by an angry mob in Obalende area of Lagos, is NOT TRUE. The Police PRO in Lagos may be contacted for further enquiries on the incident, please,” the DSS said.
