The Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), a sub-national electoral body in Delta State has formally announced  a scheduled  date for the conduct and supervision of  local government area councils polls in the State.

According to DSIEC in  a notice it made public on Tuesday, the Delta state electoral body stated that it gave the notice in line with the State’s electoral commission law of 2017.

Going by the information, elections into the offices of chairmanship and councillorships would hold on Saturday 6th March, 2021 in the State.

According to DSIEC, duly sponsored  candidates who have been chosen by various registered political parties were accordingly advised by the notice to collect designated nomination forms from the office of the DSIEC headquarters, between the hours of 8 o’clock in the forenoon and 4 o’clock in the afternoon from Tuesday the 2nd day of February 2021 to Wednesday the 3rd day of February 2021.

DSIEC said; “Nomination forms duly completed as required by the above law must be returned to the commissions headquarters not later than 4 o’clock in the afternoon on Friday the 5th day of February 2021.”

In another development,  Chairman of DSIEC, Chief Mike Ogbodu said the state electoral body would require the sum of  N1.147 billion to conduct and supervise of the next year local government elections.

The DSIEC boss stated this  during his defence of the commission’s  the 2021 budget estimates at the state House of Assembly Committee on establishment, ethics and privileges.

Chief Ogbodu DESIEC explained that  N900 million is the actual amount needed  for the conduct of the elections, but the commission would need an additional  N247 million for contingencies, including legal matters, post election seminars, trainings, among others.
