There was mild drama on Sunday as Senator Rochas Okorocha, who represents Imo West Senatorial District at the 9th Senate was reportedly humiliated in the early hours of the day by a royal father, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, Obi of Obinugwu, Obinugwu Autonomous Community in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to reports, the traditional ruler and Okorocha, who was also a former governor of Imo State, were seen together aboard an Air Peace flight to Abuja on Sunday morning.
However, the royal father who was sitting next to Okorocha, reportedly exploded with so much rage and anger.
The royal father who was angry then reportedly descended on Okorocha with his walking stick.
However, the flight attendants swiftly intervened and calmed the angry Obi of Obinugwu, as Okorocha was hastily relocated to another seat.
Although the cause of the confrontation was not yet known, however it might not be unconnected with acrimonious relationship between the Eze Illomuanya and Okorocha.
Reacting, Chidi Odinkalu, a Nigerian human rights activist, lawyer and writer, took to his official Twitter handle to make revelation on what had transpired between the former Governor and the royal father.
Odinkalu tweeted, “When he was Imo State Gov, @realRochas deposed Eze Cletus Ilomuanya as Chair of Imo Council of Chiefs, disobeying Supreme Court in the process. Today, they were on the same flt to Owerri in Biz Class. Ilomuanya used his staff to smash Rochas who had to be re-seated to save him.”
It would be recalled that Eze Illomuanya was dethroned by Okorocha while he was the governor of Imo State. The monarch who was obviously dissatisfied with the decision challenged Okorocha at the court and subsequently won the case from the High Court to the Supreme Court.
However, Okorocha, was said to have flouted the court order as he refused to reinstate the monarch back to his position.
Meanwhile, Emeka Ihedioha, during his short time as the governor of Imo State, had reinstated the monarch as the Obi of Obinugwu.
