- Fubara: “My Spirit Has Already Left Rivers’ Government House”
- Wike: “Opt Out Since Your Spirit Already Left”

The ongoing political feud between suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, the incumbent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, has taken another dramatic turn, with both camps exchanging sharp verbal blows over the state’s leadership crisis.
The latest escalation came after Fubara hinted at his disillusionment with the ongoing crisis, declaring, “My spirit has already left Rivers’ Government House.”
This is coming following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Following the emergency rule, Tinubu proceeded to suspend Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months.
Tinubu subsequently appointed retired naval chief, Ibok-Ete Ibas as Rivers State’s Sole Administrator.
However, while speaking during the service of songs held in honour of the late elder statesman Edwin Clark in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Fubara disclosed that he is not desperate to return to office.
He said: “Can’t you see how better I look? Do you think I am interested in it?
“Do you even know if I want to go back there? My spirit had already left that place long ago.”
Not one to back down, Wike responded through Lere Olayinka, his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media. Wike in his reply mocked the suspended Governor over his latest comment.
Olayinka while painting a picture of a failed marriage, said the suspended governor should simply opt out since his “spirit already left.”
Posting on X, Olayinka wrote: “It is not compulsory to stay in a marriage your spirit already left. Simply opt out legally.”
