The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Aisha Achimugu, a prominent Nigerian socialite and businesswoman who is reportedly a close associate of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, wanted in connection with allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

The announcement, made on Friday, was said to have come after the anti-graft agency launched an investigation into Achimugu’s alleged financial dealings.

According to a statement from the EFCC, Achimugu, the Managing Director and CEO of Felak Concept Group, is wanted for her alleged role in a complex web of financial misconduct, money laundering and illicit financial deals.

The anti-graft agency claimed that she failed to honour an invitation for questioning which was scheduled earlier this month, prompting the issuance of an arrest warrant.

The public notice post declaring herveanted, signed by EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, the Commission reads: “The public is hereby notified that Aisha Suliaman Achimugu, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

“Achimugu, 51, is an indigene of Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, and her last known address is 6C, Rudolf Close, Maitama, Abuja.

“Anybody with useful information as to her whereabouts should please contact the commission in its Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt or Abuja offices.”

This also comes after reports had emerged that Achimugu is believed to have reportedly fled the country after getting wind of the EFCC’s investigation, a move that was described as an attempt to evade justice.

While the EFCC has not released detailed specifics of the reported issues, charges, the case has expectedly triggered widespread speculation, particularly given her well known relationship with Sanwo-Olu.

It would be recalled that Sanwo-Olu had been fingered for allegedly attending Achimugu’s lavish 50th birthday celebration in Grenada last year.

However, the Lagos Governor denied the reports, maintaining that he didn’t attend the lavish birthday celebration.

According to the governor’s aide, Sanwo-Olu’s presence in Grenada was to have a meeting with Grenada government officials.

A few days later, photos of the governor and the prime minister of Grenada surfaced on the net.
