The crisis rocking the Royal stool of the Emir of Kano has continued to take dramatic twists and turns.

This is as the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero has continued to conduct his royal activities, reports indicated.

Bayero who was decked in full royal regalia was seen on Monday conducting his first ceremonial sitting since he was deposed by Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano state last week.

The deposed monarch who is currently being housed in a mini palace since his return to the ancient city on Saturday, received supporters and some district heads who paid him homage.

This comes after recently reinstated emir, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has also been seen conducting ceremonial sitting at the Main palace where 40 out of the 65 district heads in the state have paid him homage, according to reports.

A source privy to the matter said the district heads in the state are divided over the ongoing Emir tussle. Some were said to be in support of Sanusi while others are in support of Bayero.

The New Diplomat reports that Kano State had been thrown into crisis since Sanusi was reinstated as the Emir of Kano on Thursday.

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was reinstated to the throne after the Kano state House of Assembly amended a 2019 law which was used by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to depose him as Emir.

The bill was subsequently assented to by Governor Yusuf, repealing the 2019 legislation which had balkanised the emirate into Bichi, Rano, Karaye, Kano and Gaya.

The repealed version sacked the Emirs of all the jurisdictions.

However, Bayero returned to Kano on Saturday. Indications have begun to emerge that he is clinging to the court ruling of the Federal High Court in Kano state.

It would be recalled that Justice Mohammed Liman of the Kano State High Court had granted an ex-parte order halting the implementation of the new law that abolished the four emirates of Bichi, Gaya, Karaye, and Rano.
