• Ojakovo Explains, Pledges to unite all groups

A planned All Progressives Congress (APC) unity meeting at Ovu Ward 5 in Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State, reportedly ended in an abrupt mannervon Sunday after Council Chairman, Mr. Augustine Ogedegbe, was said to have declined to accept the party’s symbol during the proceedings.

The meeting, convened to strengthen cohesion within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, reportedly snowballed into confusion when the party leader in the area and former Commissioner for Economic Planning, Chief Love Ojakovo, attempted to hand Ogedegbe the broom, symbolising loyalty to the party.

The chairman reportedly refused, a move which triggered anxieties among stakeholders and compelled the organisers to suspend the scheduled activities, including the formal reception of new members, Vanguard reported.

Vanguard newspaper, whike quoting party insiders who said the incident underscores lingering divisions within the local chapter and the urgent need for reconciliation within the ranks and file of the party.

Narrating how the meeting was convened, Chief Ojakovo explained had told Vanguard that while on vacation abroad, he was informed of a gathering initiated by Chief Bernard Edewor on the prompting of party officials.

Ojakovo said he had advised that proper processes be followed in organising such a meeting, only to later learn the meeting went ahead in his absence.

Despite the setback, Ojakovo reaffirmed his commitment to fostering peace and unity in the party, maintaining that dialogue remains open for reconciliation among aggrieved stakeholders.
