  • PDP Can’t Be Running After Fledgling Parties For Alliance –George
  • PDP Working For Tinubu, No Party ‘ll Single-handedly Defeat APC — Momodu

By Kolawole Ojebisi

Reactions have started trailing the resolution of the governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejecting talks of the party merging or forging alliance with other political parties in a bid to wrest the reins of power from President Bola Tinubu and by extension the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)

The governors made this known on Monday evening in a communique issued after a meeting held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The decision has, however, sparked reactions about the ability of the party to pull off the ambitious plan of defeating the incumbent president all alone in 2027.

Weighing in on the matter, PDP chieftain, Bode George hailed the governors for their stance.
George believed the no-coalition stance was the right way to go.

According to him, it would be embarrassing to expect a mega party like the PDP to be running after fledgling political platforms to present a unified candidate for the 2023 presidential poll.

George spoke, on Monday night, while featuring on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’

He said, “We congratulate the governors. They have brought so much joy to my mind because the majority of the electorate are already concluding that probably the PDP is dead.

“What they came out with today has gladdened my mind and has reinforced my complete loyalty and belief that this nation will survive.

“Most of the decisions they set are quite reasonable, and they will be subject to discussion and finally tabled for approval.

“On the issue of merger, how can you expect a colossus to be looking for somebody to merge with? People will come and join us. Our doors are always open.

“We are not like the party in government that is a congregation of strange bedfellows. They don’t even have the structure that we have. But we are charting our course and route back to normalcy. The major issues have been dealt with.”

Meanwhile, a presidential aspirant of the PDP in 2023, Dele Momodu, expressed contrary opinion to that of George.

The publisher of Ovation Magazine maintained that the governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be surreptitiously working for President Bola Tinubu through their resolution.

Speaking on Arise Television on Monday, Momodu said none of the leading opposition parties can individually unseat Tinubu in 2027.

The PDP chieftain advised the opposition to unite and adopt the same tactics the APC used in 2015 to win the election.

“Opposition leaders are very determined this time around to work together. The truth of the matter is Atiku cannot do it alone, Peter Obi cannot do it alone, and Rabiu Kwankwanso cannot do it alone,” Momodu said.

“So, naturally, they have to find a way to pay APC back in its own coins by trying to get at least a chunk of all the parties, including the APC, to come together.

“If our governors are saying no, we don’t want to go into a coalition, then it means that surreptitiously you are probably working for a Tinubu presidency.

“People must learn from history; a bully only respects a bully, but all of us are already behaving like chickens. Anything, people panic, saying they are going to use the EFCC or arrest them.

“Any governor or any senator or house member who may be tempted to just jump ship may jump to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.”Momodu added.
