• APC to Gov: “Osun State has no Governor for the past two weeks. He didn’t transit Powers to his deputy…”

• Osun Govt to APC: “Adeleke travelled to the US in family private jet to attend Davido’s wedding, will be back soon”

By Abiola Olawale

Political tensions and anxieties are flaring up in Osun State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the state government engage in hot war of words over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s alleged prolonged absence from the state.

The opposition party has accused the governor of abandoning his official duties for over two weeks in the United States, without formally notifying the public or transferring power to his deputy, while the government insists Adeleke is on a brief family trip to the United States for his nephew, Davido’s wedding.

In a statement released on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the Osun APC, through its spokesperson Kola Olabisi, described Adeleke’s absence as “abnormal” and questioned the transparency of his whereabouts.

The party claimed that Adeleke left the state unannounced, leaving residents and stakeholders in the dark about who is managing state affairs.

The APC further alleged that Adeleke’s departure coincided with a rumored failed attempt to defect to their party, a claim that has added fuel to the ongoing political rivalry.

The statement reads in part: “The question being asked in hushed tones in some public places, inside commercial buses, and by motorcycle riders and their passengers in the state is: Where could be the whereabouts of their governor for this long?

“As the governor of all and sundry, we as a party need to know the whereabouts of the governor and who has been holding fort for him during his absence from the state for the past two weeks.

“Did the governor duly transmit power to his deputy, who is constitutionally covered to temporarily step into the shoes of his principal in his absence?”

Responding swiftly, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the APC’s accusations as “political mischief.”

Rasheed clarified that the governor traveled to the United States to attend the wedding of his nephew, global music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

He stated that Adeleke has remained in constant communication with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who is overseeing government activities during his absence.

In a lighthearted jab, Rasheed extended an invitation to APC members to join the wedding celebrations virtually or in person

He said: “Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for the United States via the family’s private jet a few days ago for the wedding of the global music icon, his beloved nephew, David Adeleke.

“His Excellency is extending an invitation to the opposition party to attend the event and share in the joy of the occasion with the Adeleke family. Those unable to attend may join virtually.

“Additionally, from November 2022 to date, the governor has not gone on official vacation.

“For this current trip, the governor has again chosen to make it a short one to continually attend to crucial state functions.

“The governor is in constant communication with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who is supervising the activities of the government.”
