Llewellyn -Jones: Don’t Postpone Polls
Less than two weeks to the general elections, the British Deputy High Commissioner, Ben Llewellyn-Jones has urged Nigerians to respect the ongoing electoral process as his country has invested a whooping sum of £10million to ensure a smooth transition to another democratic administration.
Llewellyn-Jones who made this declaration in Lagos, said the ten million pounds was deployed to aid the independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in logistics and educate the masses on the urgent need to participate actively in the process that would usher in a new democratic government in Nigeria.
He assured the Nigerian populace that INEC has the capacity to conduct a free, fair and credible elections.
The British Deputy Commissioner enjoined Nigerians to guide against violence that would derail the on going process.
It’s however pertinent to note that the INEC National Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu has dismissed calls by a cross section of Nigerians who are insisting that the general elections which will commence with the presidential election in this February 25 be postponed for unforseen reasons.
But the INEC Chairman in different fora has reiterated the Commission’s preparedness to conduct credible, free and fair elections.
