  • Carpet Ekeremor Youths Behind Plots To Split Umbrella Youths Group…

The leadership of EKELGA Federated  Youth Council, a non-partisan  organization that is dedicated to the protection of the interest of Ekeremor local government Area of Bayelsa State in areas such as education, politics, and culture has distanced itself from ever endorsing the candidacy of the ex-Governor Seriake Dickson for the Bayelsa West Senatorial bye-election.

The body however, acknowledged that a group of youths within its fold may have hatched a plot to split the umbrella EKELGA, with a faction supporting Hon Seriake Dickson for the Senatorial contest.

The body lambasted those behind the act saying that “it is not the prerogative of any individual or sub-group, be it president or stakeholders or elders forum, to make decisions for the council as all decisions of the council are made by the general public in a congress called by the president.”

The EKELGA faulted the said  endorsement as  null and void as it ” does not in any way represent the position of the council in the upcoming Bayelsa West senatorial election”.

The  EKELGA  Youth council in a statement issued by  led by its President, Darlington Arebai said there was never a time the youths of Ekeremor LGA  either contemplated or endorsed erstwhile Governor Seriake Dickson for the Senatorial race.

Recall that the race for Bayelsa West Senatorial bye-election is between PDP’s Dickson and All Progressives Congress(APC)’s Rt Hon Peremobowei Ebebi, a former deputy governor of Bayelsa State. Ebebi has also served as a Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

The EKELGA’s statement reads in part: ” For the purpose of addressing this issue, it will be proper to recap that EFYC is a non-partisan and non-profit making organization that bear no affiliations of any kind to any political party or group.

“Rather it is a pressure group which serve as an emblem of unity for Ekelga youths and which protect the interest of Ekeremor LGA in areas such as education, politics, culture etc. Therefore, endorsing a political party and pledging allegiance to a politician who has no ties with Ekeremor LGA with the name of the council is a gross misrepresentation of the vision of the organization.

“This unsanctioned act demeans the integrity and probity of our council, therefore we are sternly sending a note of warning to those who seek to destroy the stability of the council in the course of protecting their selfish interest to shy away from politicizing the council.

”There was Ekelga Federated Youth council before the birth of the APC and PDP rivalry in the state and we will not sit by and watch greedy people destroy it to satisfy their selfishness.

“As stated earlier, EKELGA FEDERATED YOUTH COUNCIL was birthed to protect the interest of Ekeremor LGA in the larger society in politics and other spheres of life.

”The Ekeremor LGA agenda ought to come first in all our dealings as an organization, so it is disheartening to learn that youths of EKELGA will go to the length of endorsing a candidate in an election in which an illustrious son of the EKELGA too is contesting with the name of the council.”
