  • Says, ‘Shine Your Eyes’

By Kolawole Ojebisi

A former Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, has advised leaders of the new political coalition never to allow history repeat itself in their bid to unseat President Bola Tinubu.

Dickson maintained that the last time prominent politicans “conspired” to take the reins of power from an incumbent president was in 2015 and the victim of the conspiracy was Goodluck Jonathan elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He, however, stressed that the aftermath of the conspiracy changed nothing in the affairs of the masses, advising his political colleagues to be mindful of their choices this time around by saying, “shine your eyes”.

Dickson spoke on Saturday at the 60th birthday lecture organised in honour of former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi in Abuja.

He said, “When I came in here and climbing up here, I’ve seen a lot of you. And as my brother said, there are a number of you who are expert conspirators, who know how to assemble coalitions and then take out governments, as you did to my party in 2015.

“And when you did so, particularly to a clueless government, so-called, now 11 years down the line, we thought that there would have been no weaponization of poverty and that all the challenges of Nigeria would have been gone.

“And the only advice I can give, not being a professional coalition builder and conspirator as some of you are, is at this time, shine your eyes.”

Dickson’s remark was prompted by a previous comments made by former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, at the event.

Atiku had declared himself, Amaechi, and El-Rufai as conspirators.

Atiku said he, Amaechi, and the opposition coalition are united in their opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The ex-VP was referring to emerging coalition party being spearheaded by him and the prominent politicans mentioned among others.
