Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore has been reportedly shot by the police in Abuja, during a protest to demand an end to insecurity in the country.

Sowore, a presidential candidate in the 2019 polls made this known on his Twitter handle “Just been shit by a police officer, ACP Atine at the Unity Fountain in Abuja. #RevolutionNow Let the struggle continue even if they take my life! #BuhariMustGo”

It was reported that Sowore, who has been rushed to hospital in the capital, was allegedly shot in the right side of his hip by one of the gun-wielding policemen drafted to the Unity Fountain.

The police was alleged to have been stationed at the fountain before the arrival of the activist and other protesters. Upon their arrival at the venue, teargas was said to have been fired at the unarmed protesters.

Reaction to the incident by the FCT Police was still being awaited as of the time of this reporting.
