Global music icon, Chris Brown has been arrested in Manchester, England, early Thursday morning.

Brown’s arrest is believed to be related to allegations of a violent assault at a London nightclub in February 2023. The incident, which reportedly involved Brown attacking music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle at TAPE nightclub in Mayfair, allegedly resurfaced, leading to his detention outside a Manchester hotel at approximately 2 a.m UK local time.

Chris Brown was accused of allegedly striking music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle, causing injuries that required medical attention.

Subsequently, Diaw filed a police report, and an arrest warrant was issued, though Brown had left the UK before authorities could act.

The case remained dormant until Brown returned to the UK for a performance in 2025.

On Thursday, UK’s Metropolitan Police confirmed that they have detained the 36-year-old singer around 2am on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

This was contained in a press statement issued on Thursday.

The statement reads: “A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains.

“The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”

The New Diplomat reports that this comes after Chris Brown flew into Manchester on a private jet Wednesday afternoon ahead of his planned “Breezy Bowl XX Tour” celebrating 20 years in music.

The tour includes 10 UK dates, with stops in Manchester, Cardiff, London, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Dublin, but may now be in jeopardy.

In March, Brown told fans on Instagram: “CELEBRATING 20 years of CB. So excited to be able to share this moment with the world and my amazing fans. I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE ALL YALLS BEAUTIFUL FACES. IMA TAKE YALL THREW THESE ERAS BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY GIVE YALL MY HEART AND SOUL.”
