The National Assembly has announced a one-week extension of its ongoing recess, delaying the resumption of legislative activities.

Originally scheduled to reconvene on April 29, the Assembly will now return to session on May 6, according to an official statement released by Kamoru Ogunlana, clerk of the national assembly.

Recall that Senators and House of Representatives members commenced their latest recess on March 27.

In a statement on Monday, Ogunlana said plenary in both chambers will now resume on May 6.

The clerk said the earlier resumption date has been shelved to allow lawmakers to participate in the Workers’ Day ceremony and attend to constituency matters.

The statement reads in part: “I am directed to inform distinguished senators, honourable members, and the general public that the two houses of the national assembly have extended the date for the resumption of plenary sessions from Tuesday, 29th April 2025, to Tuesday, 6th May 2025.

“This extension allows distinguished senators and honourable members to participate in the Workers’ Day ceremony and attend other engagements in their constituencies.

“Distinguished senators, honourable members, and the general public are invited to take note of the new resumption date.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.”
