The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Tuesday, announced that its operatives have arrested nine protesters for allegedly flying Russian flags in Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital city.

This was revealed by the Borno State Commissioner of Police Command, Yusuf Lawal.

Lawal, while addressing a press conference, revealed that the suspects were arrested in the Zannari Tamsu area of Gwange Ward, Maiduguri, on Monday, August 5.

He identified some of the suspects as Abdulhamid, Mohammed Abubakar, Mohamed Ibrahim, and Abba Hassan.

He said: “Additionally, five more protesters were apprehended in the Bulumkutu area of Maiduguri, carrying Russian flags.

“The suspects, Bashir Ahmad, Musa Lawan, Abba Mallam, Habibu Auwal, and Inusa Abdullahi, were transferred to the Crack Squad for discreet investigation, and diligent prosecution.”

Lawal also noted that the situation of the protest in Borno State, in general, has been calm.

He also assured that the Borno State Police Command would continue to monitor and patrol every location to ensure public safety.
