  • Edo Governor-elect Denies Involvement In Arrest

Reports emerging on Saturday suggest that some public officials of Edo State are currently being quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), a few days to the end of the tenure of the current People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-led Edo state government.

According to reports, the EFCC is currently quizzing the Accountant General of Edo State, Julius Anelu, and two other government officials over alleged withdrawals of funds from the state’s account.

The arrested officials were said to have made withdrawals from the Edo State’s derivation account domiciled in one of the banks.

The EFCC is yet to officially react to the development as of the time of this report.

However, while reacting to the development, Edo State Governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo has denied any involvement in the arrest of the Accountant General and other government officials.

Okpebholo made this known in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Godswill Inegbe. According to Okpebholo, he read about the development like everyone, stating: “For the avoidance of doubt and to inform the general public, the Governor-elect, like every citizen of Edo, learned about the arrests of Mr. Julius Anelu and other state officials through media reports. “
