  • As Uvwie, Ogboru Endorse Omo-Agege for Senate Second Term

By John Oghojafor

Over 5,000 PDP members in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in what is believed to be the aftermath of recent intensive consultations by political aspirants from the opposition party in the state.

The event which took place in Effurun, the headquarters of the Local Government Area today (02/09/18), also witnessed the endorsement of the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the red chambers, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for a second term in the National Assembly, by thousands of the party supporters in the Area.

In the same vein, frontline governorship aspirant of the APC in Delta State, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, has expressed deep satisfaction with the performance of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege representing the Urhobo people in the Senate so far, and has declared his support for the lawmaker to go back to the Senate for a second tenure to provide the needed leadership in the Senate and continue with his effective representation for the Urhobo nation.

The occasion which was a continuation of Senator Omo-Agege’s consultation visits to wards and Local Government Areas executives of the APC including leaders and elders of the party across the Senatorial Districts, attracted thousands of party faithful who thronged the venue in Effurun to demonstrate their support for the national lawmaker.

Addressing the party supporters in Effurun, Senator Omo-Agege thanked the party executives and leaders and elders in the area for their support that provided him the opportunity to go to the Senate in 2015. He however declared his intention to contest for a second term in the Senate, adding that he could only do that after he has consulted with the people and got their blessing to go back to the red chambers to represent the Urhobo people.

Said he: “I don’t ever want to be accused of taking my people for granted. It is the people of Uvwie, it is the party in Uvwie that sent me to Abuja. And having decided that I want to make a return to continue with the work which you have sent me to do, knowing full well that a sizeable portion of time of that four years was stolen from me by the never-do-well in Delta Central, I believe it is only proper, it is only fair to come and formally notify the ward executives of the party in Uvwie, the Local Government executives of the party in Uvwie, the leaders and elders of the party in Uvwie and, most importantly, the electorate of the party in Uvwie.

“So, I am here today to formally notify you that I, Obarisi Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, I’m making myself available as an aspirant for Senate to represent the Urhobo nation in 2019.”

Senator Omo-Agege also used the occasion to solicit the support of the people for aspiration of Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru for the governorship of Delta State come 2019, adding that he (Omo-Agege) alone in Abuja cannot do very little in attracting the dividend of democracy to the people but with Chief Great Ogboru as governor of Delta State, so much will be achieved for the Urhobo nation.

“We need a governor of APC extraction in Delta State. And we all know that there is only one man that can win that election. We all know that the only man who can win the governorship election in Delta State for the APC is Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru.”

Also speaking at the occasion, Chief Great Ogboru he was present to demonstrate his solidarity with Senator Omo-Agege in his declaration for his aspiration to return to the Senate in 2019.

Said he: “I came in solidarity with the Super Senator, my brother, a very well-respected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.  We shall do everything necessary to promote Delta State. And we shall not do less to promote Senator Omo-Agege. We shall do everything humanly possible to make sure that the leadership that the Senate requires is given to them.  I believe Omo-Agege is a veritable material to be the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“That is why we say you are going back to the Senate as the first Senator to go for a second tenure in Delta Central.  No other person has achieved that before. We are in a party of change and the change has come. Therefore, we must do things differently.  So, you are going back for a second term. I’m standing on good authority? Therefore the people of Uvwie have agreed to return Senator Ovie Omo-Agege unopposed for a second tenure.

“Obarisi, we wish you the best of congratulations as you are going back to represent us.  We are very proud of what you have done and what you will continue to do. If not I’m not sure I would be sitting down here with you.  If you had let us down we should have said thank you, the last deal was good enough for us. There would have been no need of coming back.  But you have done exceptionally well. We are extremely proud of you.”

While formally receiving the over 5,000 PDP members who decamped to the APC in Uvwie, the chairman of the APC in Delta Central, Barr. Chief Adelabu Bodjor thanked the decampees for “taking the bull by the hand”, adding that it is the “only way the bull can fall”.

According to him, Uvwie Local Government is very significant in any election because of the size, adding that “for you to have decided to have decided to join the APC today, I say congratulation and welcome.”

Barr. Bodjor assured the new decampees that they have equal opportunities in the party as older members.

“You are welcome to APC.  We are happy to receive you into our fold. But I want to promise you one thing.  Be rest assured that it is in our character to treat anybody who comes into APC the same as if you were there the day APC was born.”

The Senator Ovie Omo-Agege consultation train also visited Okpe Local Government Area where he was received by the ward and local government party executive as well as APC leaders, elders and thousands of party supporters who gathered at the Edion Multi-purpose Hall, Orerokpe.

The Senator also disclosed his intention to go back to Senate in 2019 just as he solicited their support to enable him go back to the Senate to provide the needed leadership and also explore his connection with President Muhammadu Buhari to attract more dividends of democracy to Delta Central.

He urged the people of Okpe to also support Chief Great Ogboru’s governorship intention in Delta State as well as massive support to return President Buhari as President so that the Sapele-Agbor federal road project that is ongoing can be completed as well as attract other federal projects to the area.

On the entourage of the Senator are APC leaders and elders including Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru, Sir. Richard Odibo, Barr. Chief Adelabu Bodjor, Dr. Mrs. Veronica Ogbuagu, Chief Alex Imarah, among others.
