A total of 22 lawmakers of the Delta State House of Assembly, including Speaker Emomotimi Guwor, have officially announced their intentions to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development was announced by Guwor during a plenary session on Tuesday.

The Speaker said that the decision was contained in letters he received from the 22 lawmakers, including his own.

According to him, the decision to dump the PDP and join APC was reached unanimously by the affected legislators.

He cited the lingering divisions within the South-South division of the PDP and the deepening crisis at the party’s national level.

“With this development, the Delta State House of Assembly is now fully an APC House,” the speaker noted.

The New Diplomat reports that with the official defection, the Delta State House of Assembly has experienced a power shit.

The state’s legislature, previously under the control of the PDP, has now shifted to the APC.

This also comes following the earlier defections of key political heavyweights, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa.
