Lawmaker representing Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Revd Francis Waive, has declared his support for the ambition of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in the 2023 presidential election.

The lawmaker who called on the Vice President to openly declare his ambition for the 2023 presidency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), described Osinbajo as the best man to land the number office in the country.

Though Osinbajo remains mum on his rumoured presidential ambition, Waive who also doubles as the Deputy Chairman of the House Committe on Power and Chairman Nigeria Niger Parliamentary Friendship Group, called on APC leaders to do the needful and support Osinbajo to win the party’s presidential ticket.

The lawmaker made this call in a statement issued on Sunday.

The statement in part read: “the Vice President has displayed all the character traits of a good leader. He is a trustworthy and loyal Vice to President Mohammedu Buhari.

“Prof Osinbajo has proven capacity to turn the fortunes of this country around building on the foundation laid by the present administration. Nigeria needs a younger leader like Prof Osinbajo who has the presence of mind, vast contacts around the country and respect for the multi ethnic and multi religious dimensions of our country.

“Prof Osinbajo’s intellectual dept, managerial abilities, patience and tolerance is what our country needs at this crucial time in our history.

“I therefore call on all people of goodwill to pray and work for the emergence of Prof Osinbajo as President of Nigeria come 2023.”

Meanwhile, there are indications that there could be a battle between former Lagos State governor and one of the national leaders of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Osinbajo over the presidential ticket of the APC.

The duo are rumoured to be keen on contesting for the 2023 presidential election under the platform of the APC.

It was gathered that Tinubu, who met with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Monday, has since begun consultations for his 2023 presidential ambition.

According sources privy to the matter, Tinubu has reportedly informed Buhari as well as other stalwarts in the party about his ambition to contest for the presidential election in 2023.
