The Delta Police spokesman, Mr. Bright Edafe has denied report of the death of four policemen in Tuesday’s accident involving an excort vehicle in the convoy of Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, during an inspection tour of the Second Niger Bridge linking the Delta State capital of Asaba and the market town of Onitsha, Anambra State.

With a dismissive wave of the hand, Edafe, a deputy superintendent of police insisted that the accident was a minor road mishap which involved a backup vehicle in the convoy during the inspection of the bridge which is still under construction.

He said that that nobody died in the unfortunate incident involving Prof. Gambari who accompanied the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola and his Labour and Employment counterpart, Senator Christ Ngige during the inspection of the bridge.

He said: “It was a very minor accident. There was nothing to it. It involved a backup vehicle which merely veered off the road and ran into a ditch. No life was lost. It was a very minor accident a which was blown out of proportion.”

According to reports, the policemen reportedly died Tuesday evening at the Asaba end of the bridge shortly after the Presidential aide and the ministers had finished the inspection of the ongoing work at the Second Niger Bridge.
