Political horse trading, mudslinging and bickerings remain the undercurrents that define democracy in Africa. This tripod on which Nigeria’s democracy stands, is gradually caving in as March 18, a day set aside for the Governorship election.
Political gladiators are currently putting final touches on Strategies that would guarantee electoral victory for their preferred candidate.
In Delta State, the political tensed atmosphere is gradually fading away like a buttered ice under Sun. This is so because the three frontliners on the race track to the State House, have left Deltans to make their choice even before the final whistle by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to begin the race.
Like the proverbial wrestler in African cosmology who beats his chest to challenge his opponents before the contest begins. So the Labour Party, LP governorship candidate, Deacon Ken Pela and Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have done perfectly well.
The All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who have tested the River Nile with both legs, knows the intricacies buried under the troubled water of Nigeria’s politics.
His emergence as Deputy Senate President was beyond coincidence. His unwavering commitment to the people of his immediate constituency puts him in a proper stead to assume the towering height at the National level.
The renowned Luminary, Omo-Agege, who carries humility on his chest exactly the same way the Catholic Bishop carries his Cross, slashed his political tooth from the grassroots. He systematically grows through the ranks to attain the pinnacle of political relevance.
The Deputy Senate President has demonstrated his preparedness to upset the PDP’s dominance of Delta State.
In his campaigns, Omo-Agege has not hesitated to reveal to the suffering people of Delta why “Power Must Change Hands.”
He effortlessly reels out statistics that showed that the PDP led government in the state had for long shortchanged the people of their collective patrimony. Despite the huge federal allocation aside from the internally generated revenue accruing to the state, Deltans still languish in perpetual poverty. Year in, year out the story has never changed for the people.
Hence, Omo-Agege opted to condescends from the national level politics to the state because he feels with pain the suffering of his people.
Already, the people Delta State have embraced with both hands as their Governor Elect. Virtually are the major ethnic groups in the state have endorsed him as the next Governor of Delta State.
In the next five days, the trumpet that would herald the emergence of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as the Governor of Delta State would be blown.
