  • As PDP Exco Promises Leveled Play Field For Aspirants

By John Oghojafor

With the passage into law of the new bill of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) by the House of Assembly, the stage seems set for the release of a timetable for the conduct of the Local Government Councils election in the state any time soon.  Aspirants to various positions have also cashed in on the development to kick-start their consultations with party leaders, elders and stakeholders to seek their supports.

Chief Julius Jessa-Scott who has been the State Auditor of the PDP, expressed his intention to contest the chairmanship election to the Okpe Local Government Council seat on the platform of the PDP with a consultation visit on Sunday to the LGA party executive in Orerokpe.

Chief  Scott, alongside his numerous supporters, thronged the Okpe Local Government PDP Secretariat at Orerokpe where he intimated the party executive led by Chief Efe Uko with his ambition to contest the forthcoming Okpe Local Government Council election as chairman.

Addressing the party at the Secretariat, Chief Scott who recalled that he aspired to the chairmanship of the Council three years ago, urged the executive to allow for a level playfield at the primary where the candidate of the party will be elected.

He expressed assurance that given a level play field, primary for all the aspirants to the chairmanship on the platform of the PDP, he would emerge the flag bearer, adding that he has all it takes to transform the Okpe Council area to become the envy of all.

Responding , the PDP chairman in Okpe Local Government Area, Chief Efe Uko, welcome the chairmanship aspirant, thanking him for the wisdom to consult with the party executive before the whistle for formal campaign is blown for the Council election.

While  assuring that the party executive will provide a leveled playfield for all the party’s aspirants to both chairmanship and councillorship, Chief Uko advised that the aspirants must extend his consultation visits to elders of the party as well as leaders of various ward executives to intimate them with his intention.

He  however, admitted that chairmanship aspirant, Chief Scott has contributed his quota to the growth and development of the PDP in Okpe Local Government Area, and by extension, the entire state, adding that he was adequately qualified to aspire to the number one position of the Council.

Present  at the occasion were the party chairman, Chief Efe Uko and members of his executive, other party stalwarts who were in the entourage of Chief Scott including Chief Lizzy Obukene, Chief Blessing Oborevwori, Chief Chris Ometan, Chief Hon. Owin, among others.
