Less than one week after a Delta Councillor, Adjekpovu, died from wounds sustained in an attack by suspected hoodlums along Eku-Abraka road, another Delta lawmaker has been shot by suspected assassins around Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

Reuben Rume Izeze, member representing Ughelli South Local State Constituency, was reportedly shot on Thursday night.

According to reports, the lawmaker who is a lawyer, was said to have been attacked while returning home.

The New Diplomat learnt that the attackers opened fire on the lawmaker’s vehicle at close range.

It was learnt that while the lawmaker survived the attack and was rushed to an unknown medical facility, his aide who was with him was kidnapped, and the vehicle taken away.

However, the abducted aide has been freed and the vehicle recovered.

When contacted on phone, the Delta State Police Command PPRO, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, saying the lawmaker was recuperating very fast in the hospital.

He added that the police rescued the aide and recovered the vehicle snatched by the hoodlums, adding that efforts were on to arrest the suspects.

“Yes, I am aware, but he is recuperating very fast in the hospital. And his aide and his vehicle taken away we were able to recover them swiftly.

“… efforts are on to arrest the hoodlums,” he said.
