With less than four days to the Governorship election, a splitter group of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP known as the Delta Unity Group (DUG) has dumped it’s candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori for the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for the March 11 governorship election.

The group which made this declaration at the end of it’s meeting held on Monday in Agbor, Ika South local government area of Delta State, announced the endorsement of Senator Omo-Agege as its preferred governorship candidate for the March 11 election.

The group which parades some of the best brain and influential politicians in the state, is the umbrella body for supporters of the former governorship Aspirant of the PDP and Former finance commissioner, Olorogun David Edevbie.

A release issued by the group at the end of its meeting, signed by the chairman, Board Of Trustees, Delta Unity Group, Professor Patrick Muoboghare who is the immediate past Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, the immediate past Secretary to the State Government, Chiedu Ebie, Esq., and former Council Chairman of Isoko South, Chief Itiako Ikpopo who both co-conveners of DUG, disclosed that the choice of Omo-Agege was reached after weeks of consultations with the different organs that made up the group.

The group which expressed optimism that the state leadership of the party would activate genuine reconciliatory measures, build trust and reinforce party cohesion, lamented that the governorship candidate of the party, Oborevwori failed to initiate genuine engagements and avail members of the group his programmes and policies.

The group disclosed that it was the failure of Oborevwori to integrate all of these tendencies within the party, and hostile disposition of the party’s leadership towards DUG’s members that invariably kept aloof of all mainstream activities of the party.

DUG stated that various mutual reconciliation attempts were rebuffed the leadership of the PDP.

The group also disclosed that the All Progressives Congress, APC Governorship candidate, Senator Omo-Agege repeatedly approached and consulted extensively with the group.

The group further disclosed that at the series of sessions, Senator Omo-Agege was able to satisfactorily present the inner details of his Agenda and message of Hope for Deltans.

“It is a known fact that the leadership and membership of DUG are desirous of a state geared towards a fast-paced and sustainable socio-economic development, which we believe are achievable through a well thought out modernisation process and a State Chief Executive possessing the necessary level of intellect, competence and capacity to steer the ship of State in these precarious times.

“Going further, we are happy to announce that the APC candidate for governorship election in Delta State, Senator Omo-Agege has agreed to fully integrate and incorporate the modernisation Agenda of Olorogun David Edevbie into his Build A New Dawn (BAND) governance agenda for Delta.

“It is on this basis and the general yearnings of Deltans and friends that we, as members of the DUG fully endorse the candidacy of the APC Governorship candidate and Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege in the forthcoming Delta State governorship election holding 11 March, 2023.

” Consequently, DUG’S NEC and all Executive organs, comprising senatorial, LGAs, Ward and Unit Executives are hereby directed to mobilise en mass and work for the emergence of the candidacy of Senator Omo-Agege as the next Governor of Delta State. We also call on all Deltans and friends of Delta including our teeming eligible voting youths to join this patriotic and altruistic task,” the declared.
