A former governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, has mourned the passage of Professor Amos Agbe Utuama SAN, who served as his deputy governor from 2007 to 2015.

In a heartfelt tribute, Uduaghan said Utuama was more than a deputy to him.

According to him, Utuama served as an adviser, a friend and a senior brother during his tenure as the Governor of Delta State.

He said: “I am beyond saddened by the death of my Deputy and ally, Prof. Amos Agbe Utuama. He was more than a deputy. He was my friend, adviser and elder brother.

“Your death is more than a huge blow to me, my family and our dear state.”

The New Diplomat reports that Utama, a distinguished legal giant and scholar of international repute passed away on Saturday at the age of 77 years old.

He was born on June 5, 1947. Professor Utuama distinguished himself as an excellent scholar, teacher and mentor to many. He was a deputy to former Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan.

He served for eight years with Uduaghan on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Prior to that role, he was the commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Delta State. That was under the administration of former Governor James Ibori.

Utuama was a well-respected Senior law lecturer at the University of Lagos. He was greatly loved by many both in the academia and in the political arena across all party lines. He was a devout Christian of the Catholic faith.

He hailed from Otughievwen (Otu-Jeremi) town in Ughievwen Kingdom of Ughelli South local government area of Delta State.
